Double the drama served up in Harborough

Two Sisters and The Cagebirds will be performed from Tuesday, February 28, to Sunday, March 4. Two Sisters was the winner of the 2007 Manchester Evening News New Play award and was written by Caroline Harding.Set in Russia in the 19th century it is written in the style of Chekhov and features two sisters who arrive home to find coffins in their bedrooms. Secrets, best kept, are revealed. But there is a sting in the tail.The second play, The Cagebirds will be performed by the stars of tomorrow from the resident Parsnips Youth Theatre. Six birds living quite happily in domesticated bliss see their cosy world turned upside down when a new wild bird is introduced. The show has been described by the society as entertaining and thought provoking. It was written by David Campton.Both plays are directed by John Foreman whose recent productions for the society include Anne Boleyn and The Royal Baccarat Scandal.A spokesman for the society said: “The one act plays are always a good experience for our audience and this year promises to be no exception.“We expect stiff competition between the two plays in our programme as they progress through the All England One Act Play Festival.”There are still three more shows left in the current season by Market Harborough Drama Society. Bouncers, by John Godber, will be performed at the beginning of April while in May the society will stage Whose Life Is It Anyway, followed by The Importance of Being Earnest in July.Performances of the two one act plays start at 7.45pm with a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm. Tickets cost £10 for adults and £8 for concessions. They are selling fast and anybody looking to see the plays is advised to book as soon as possible.
