Donations to a Harborough charity shop broke the £20,000 barrier in a matter of days in the aftermath of the Boxing Day tsunami ten years ago.
Donations were pouring in at the High Street branch of Oxfam and the amount raised in mere days would normally take the town shop four years to collect.
A newsagent – Maher News in Logan Street – was also among those raising funds for the appeal. In a touching gesture, paperboys and girls from the shop donated some of their pay. The Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami disaster killed more than 227,000 people in 14 countries.
