Crime knocks parking off the front page

After a month’s worth of front pages on the controversial introduction of car parking charges in the district, crime knocked the issue from the Mail’s main spread.

A police appeal to catch a teenage sex attacker was the main story ten years ago this week, which included a CD fit of the suspect.

A 12-year-old girl had been dragged into bushes near Gores Lane and Chatsworth Drive in Little Bowden.

And thieves stole a necklace worth nearly £30,000 from a town centre jewellers.

The theft happened at Arroyo Fine Jewellery at the Bennetts Place shopping arcade off High Street.

In other news, police were launching a clampdown on violent crime associated with boozing after a spike in the previous six months. More on-the-spot fines were promised.
