An entire street in Market Harborough was brilliantly lit up as festive families united to turn on their dazzling Christmas lights at the same time.

Over 20 homes in Davies Close got together to flick the switch at 5pm on Sunday (December 6).

Delighted resident Ruth Richardson, 56, said: “It was just fantastic to do our communal mass switch-on.

“We have an incredibly-positive community spirit in Davies Close.

“It’s been a very testing year for us all but in many ways the pandemic has brought us closer together here.”

The expert seamstress and former fashion technology university lecturer added: “People brought out mulled wine and mince pies and we had a lovely Christmassy time.

“We are also holding an advent window competition with people dressing their windows up as No10 Downing Street, Home Alone and so on.

“We have our own Facebook page in Davies Close, we all try to support each other and we’re really looking forward to staging many more community events in 2021.”
