Hundreds of people attend mass flu vaccination event in Harborough

More than 500 people have attended a mass flu vaccination and had free eye tests at Harborough Leisure Centre in Market Harborough.

The huge session went ahead at the sports and activity complex which is run by Harborough council alongside sports and leisure operator Everyone Active.

Flu jabs were given to people inside the building on Northampton Road, Market Harborough, while eye tests were conducted in the car park.

The vaccinations were set up with Market Harborough Medical Centre, based on Coventry Road, which booked out slots before the event.

A separate entrance was made available to those who had booked ahead and a one-way system operated throughout the day to implement social distancing.

Contract manager Matthew Hopkin said: “We’re so glad we’ve been able to provide a safe area for members of our community to receive their flu vaccinations and eye tests.

“Despite these difficult times that we’re going through, it’s still so important for people to look after their health and get their flu jabs.”

He added: “We worked closely with Harborough Medical Centre prior to the event to create a safe and Covid-secure environment for those coming to get their vaccination and eye tests.”

Following the successful re-opening of Harborough Leisure Centre’s gyms and group exercise studios in August, swimming facilities are now also available.

Everyone Active procedures will ensure social distancing is managed throughout complexes and regular cleaning is maintained.
