Health centre in Market Harborough suspends all routine appointments due to the coronavirus

A major health centre in Market Harborough has suspended all routine appointments due to the coronavirus.

Market Harborough Medical Centre is asking patients not to turn up at its busy base in Coventry Road or its Husbands Bosworth centre.

The health centre has posted a statement on its website declaring: “In accordance with new government guidelines all routine appointments at the surgery are being suspended.

“If you have a cough, cold and flu-like symptoms regardless of travel you should self-isolate for 7 days – PLEASE DO NOT COME TO THE SURGERY.

“For all non-coronavirus related conditions please phone the surgery and a telephone consultation will be arranged.

“Please contact NHS 111 online for further guidance on coronavirus.”

The surgery has also put up a statement from the NHS and Public Health England.

This states: “The NHS and Public Health England (PHE) are extremely well prepared for outbreaks of new infectious diseases.

“The NHS has put in place measures to ensure the safety of all patients and NHS staff while also ensuring services are available to the public as normal.

“Stay at home for 7 days if you have either:

- a high temperature - you feel hot to touch on your chest or back

- a new, continuous cough - this means you've started coughing repeatedly

“Do not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital

“You do not need to contact 111 to tell them you're staying at home.

“Testing for coronavirus is not needed if you're staying at home.

“Read the NHS advice about staying home

“Use the NHS 111 online coronavirus service if:

- you feel you cannot cope with your symptoms at home

- your condition gets worse

- your symptoms do not get better after 7 days
