The number of daily Covid-19 cases recorded in Leicester and Leicestershire hit a new all-time high yesterday (Monday).

Almost 850 people tested positive in the city and the county according to new Government figures, including 82 new cases across Harborough.

They bring the total number of cases in Harborough recorded since the start of the coronavirus pandemic last spring to 3,148.

Harborough’s rate of 400.8 cases per 100,000 people almost matched the national average of 401.1 on Thursday December 31.

The infection rate in the district is currently the second highest in Leicestershire after Oadby and Wigston.

The situation is deteriorating throughout Harborough as Prime Minister Boris Johnson plunged the whole of England into a third national Covid-19 lockdown last night.

Mr Johnson acted as Harborough council is reminding people that its vital Community Support Hub set up almost a year ago is still very much up and running.
