How ruthless scammers in Leicestershire are trying to cash in on the coronavirus

Police are warning people across Harborough to be on their guard against ruthless coronavirus scammers.

Criminals are cynically trying to cash in on the virus emergency by exploiting vulnerable people’s fears.

Harborough police said that scammers are knocking on people’s doors and offering to test them for coronavirus.

A Leicestershire Police spokesman said: “This is a scam.

“Those claiming they can carry out tests on your doorstep are lying.

“Do not let them into your house and don't pay them.

“Call police immediately on 101 or 999 in an emergency to report this.”

He added: “We haven’t been notified of any in Leicestershire, but it is happening elsewhere.”
