Pupils at Meadowdale Primary School have racked up a set of spectacular writing results – putting them among the very best in the country.

Boys and girls at the Meadowdale Road school have performed brilliantly in moderated writing tasks comparing their work to children of the same age across the UK.

Meadowdale’s Year 2 results were incredibly in the top one per cent of schools nationwide.

And a fantastic 95 per cent of children hit the expected standard in the task (compared to 70 per cent nationally) with 34 per cent achieving greater depth (as against just 15 per cent nationally).

The average writing age for Meadowdale children was eight years 11 months.

That was a stunning 15 months ahead of the national average and nearly two years ahead of their actual age.

This follows similar successes for Year 4 pupils.

Some 92.9 per cent achieved the expected standard in their task (77.9 per cent UK-wide) and 42.9 per cent were working at greater depth.

That’s over double the national average of just 19.7 per cent.

And Year 1 pupils attained a remarkable 92 per cent expected standard (69 per cent nationally) and 38 per cent greater depth (16 per cent nationally).

Currently closed due to the coronavirus lockdown, delighted Liz Martin, Head of School, said: “We are very proud of how hard our pupils work to improve their writing and now they’ve been rewarded with these exceptional results.

“I’m sure the children would like to join me in saying thank you to our talented teachers.

“They all work tirelessly to ensure they deliver an engaging and rigorous curriculum. “Well done everyone.”

Meadowdale Primary School, which has about 380 pupils aged from 4-11, is one of 10 primary schools which belong to the Learn Academies Trust.
