How children at Cottingham Primary School have spread happiness far and wide

Pupils at a village school near Market Harborough have been busy bees as they’ve lit up their local community.

Children at Cottingham CofE Primary School have spread happiness far and wide as they took part in a special ‘Values Day’ – staged once a term.

The youngsters did the villagers of Cottingham and Middleton proud as they carried out a whole range of activities.

The pupils planted bulbs in Middleton Pocket Park, sang to delighted residents at Middleton’s Manor House Residential Home, picked up litter from Cottingham’s playing field and delivered cakes and postcards to neighbours.

Headteacher Ashley Scott said: “We’ve had a great response to this – our children have done ever so well.

“It really shows how important the local community is and the role a small school like ours can play within it.”

Each Values Day kicks off with a sporting activity and a well-being session.

The children take some time to relax and value the opportunity to have some quiet time.

“We hope that these sessions and Values Days allow the children to take time out of the hectic curriculum to think of themselves and others,” added Ashley.

The school places huge emphasis on supporting people in their community as well as those further afield.

Other charities supported by the school’s Values Days include Northampton Food Bank and Compassion UK.
