And the 1,000-pupil school is broadcasting its message to families online just days after a Year 7 student, aged 11 or 12, tested positively for the coronavirus.

Dan Cleary, the principal at Robert Smyth Academy, says on their website: “In order to protect our school and the local community we have decided to avoid large public gatherings such as those usually seen at our open evening and Academy tours.

“Instead, we are welcoming you virtually.

“We will be adding videos of our staff and students talking about our curriculum and the wide-ranging opportunities available to children joining us in Year 7.” He added: “In addition, you can register to take part in one of our live Q & A sessions with members of the Academy’s senior leadership.

“Our Admissions page has further information about how to apply to join the Academy.

“Sixth form content will be published after the October half-term.”
