Do you fancy signing up to do a part-time day, evening or weekend educational course in Harborough?

Well time is running out to save 20 per cent on the fee you will fork out for one of hundreds of the county council initiatives.

The special discount on the GoLearn adult learning courses ends on Tuesday September 1.

This year’s GoLearn sessions will run differently due to the ongoing Covid-19 restrictions.

Many classes have been moved online.

But there are courses that still offer classroom-based learning with steps taken to ensure centres are safe for staff and learners.

Courses on offer range from one-off two-hour sessions to 15-week courses and full 30-week programmes.

You can do modern languages, British Sign Language, English for speakers of other languages (ESOL), digital skills, pottery, Indian cookery, astronomy, yoga, chocolate craft, drawing and painting, textiles and confidence building.

For the first time this year, GoLearn is offering the new essential digital skills qualification.

This is aimed at complete beginners and offers a stepping stone to more advanced IT courses and qualifications.

There are also free courses available for people who are seeking work and looking to gain basic skills.

They include planning your first steps towards employment, increasing your confidence, help with looking for a job, CV writing and interview skills.

Cllr Richard Blunt, the county council’s cabinet member for heritage, leisure and arts, said: “The GoLearn courses can make a real difference to people’s lives. “There are courses designed to help learners get back into the job market, improve their maths and English, support their children’s learning and improve their health and wellbeing.”

He added: “The 20 per cent early bird discount on course fees is a great opportunity to try something different and learn a new skill.

“I would encourage people to look at the courses on offer and enrol before the deadline of 1 September to make sure they don’t miss out.”

Anyone in receipt of certain benefits or on a low income can get up to a 70 per cent discount on course fees - or may even be entitled to attend for free.
