College dorms plan for former pub

A COLLEGE wants to turn a former Harborough pub into boarding accommodation for its students.

Brooke House College has applied to Harborough District Council for planning permission to convert the Union Inn Hotel, in Leicester Road, which closed suddenly in March last year.

The college, which is also based in Leicester Road, caters for more than 200 students, mainly from overseas.

In December it secured planning permission to convert the former Trades and Labour Club at the rear of High Street into a study facility.

Another of Harborough’s pubs, The Peacock, closed last year and has been turned into a Pizza Express while an application to turn the White Lion, in High Street, into a restaurant was also recently submitted.
