A pub in Market Harborough has opened a new coffee shop out in the fresh air as it fights back against the Covid-19 pandemic.

You can now enjoy a cuppa at the Garden Lodge at the Freemasons Arms as well as tucking into delicious food.

Market Harborough’s newest al fresco coffee spot at the St Mary’s Road pub is already proving a surefire hit.

And the scheme helping the pub to diversify and branch out has created five new jobs.

Delighted Jenny Low, who heads up operations at the Freemasons Arms, said: “We opened the Garden Lodge last week and it’s got off to a fine start.

“It’s already going down well with customers and we are really encouraged by the public’s response.”

She added: “It’s very exciting and positive.

“We are seeing new customers coming in along with our regulars so that’s great.

“We are taking this step because businesses need to be smart and adapt quickly as the coronavirus continues to be an issue.

“People want to get back out again after the lockdown and boost the local economy but there is still some fear about too.

“So it’s all about striking the right balance.”

Jenny said customers can savour a coffee, hot chocolate and soft drinks with milkshakes for kids while surrounded by climbing plants.

“We have also brought in a couple of beautiful singing canaries to help keep you entertained.

“You can treat yourself to a slice of cake, a toasted sandwich or smoked Applewood cheese with homemade mojo sauce.

“We have carried out a full Covid-19 risk assessment, set up extra toilets and maintain social distancing and regular cleaning.

“We have a full duty of care to our brilliant staff as well as to guests.

“People also want to carry on sitting outside even as winter approaches.

“They are telling us they are keen to sit outside in the fresh air,” she said.

“So we are looking at putting a cover over the whole area and setting up heaters to keep them warm.

“We’ve also taken on five new members of staff, which is fantastic in these difficult times.”

The Garden Lodge is open from 10am-4pm Monday to Friday and from 9am-12midday at weekends.
