A choral society is joining upwith another musical organisation for a special concer in the town later this month.
Market Harborough Choral Society will play alongside the Harborough Band for the summer concert the Carnival of the Animals.
The concert is being staged at the Market Harborough Methodist Church in Northampton Road starting at 7.30pm on Saturday June 25.
The musical mixture conjures up a menagerie of creatures with hints of humour, beauty and melodrama.
The list of animals includes hippos, lions and a veritable aviary of birds.
It also includes a number of well-known songs given a novel twist.
Pushing the bounds of the concert title, there are also two songs by The Beatles.
The finale of the concert is a rousing version of Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus when the choir and band join forces.
Society chairman Neil Ryrie said: “We are very pleased to welcome the Harborough Band who will be sharing the platform with us.
“Few people can forget our last concert together which featured Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man.
“This concert, as the title suggests, is a carnival of colourful songs some bright and funny others not so.”
The church will be suitably decorated and themed refreshments will be available.
Tickets for the concert are £12 for adults, £12 for concessions and free for people under the age of 16.
They can be obtained on the door or by speaking to any members of the choir. They can also be bought from from Spencers Estate Agents in Market Harborough High Street or by calling Geoff on 07736 227736.
