The Market Harborough Food Quarter has once again been tickling the taste buds of the town at its recent event at Simply Simon’s Bistro Cafe.
The Food Quarter, which was established in 2012, aims to showcase some of the best of Harborough’s food and drinks and to celebrate its independent shops.
Members of the Food Quarter – which held its event in the bistro cafe in Adam and Eve Street – include Simply Simon’s, Bates Butchers, Hobbs Fishmongers and Duncan Murray Wines.
Guests attended the taster evening last Thursday and were treated to seven taster courses, all accompanied by selected wines and ciders.
People at the event were able to sample beetroot and goat’s cheese tart, salmon and asparagus with lemon and herb butter, spicy chicken kebabs, a cappucino creme brulee and various cheeses.
The purpose of the evening was to use the combined experience and expertise of the Food Quarter members to present dishes that could be cooked at home and to give suggestions on how to pair those with the right alcoholic beverages.
Guests could sign up to take recipes home with them and Duncan Murray was on hand to provide drinks advice.
Charles Oppenheim, one of the guests at the evening, said: “The food was wonderful and there were really interesting combinations. It was the best taster evening we have ever been to – and we’ve been to quite a few.”
Plans for future Food Quarter events are already in the pipeline.
