Last chance to enter your SwiMarathon team

THERE are a few spaces left for teams to enter the Rotary SwiMarathon event taking place this weekend at Harborough Leisure Centre.

More than 30 teams have already signed up from schools and businesses to groups of friends.

And some slots are still available for the early evening on Saturday and Sunday.

Money raised during the two-day event all goes to charities.

“Last year over £7,000 was raised by just 21 teams. So we are hoping for even more money to give away this year,” said Rotarian Jim Davies, who is also a swim teams organiser.

Harborough CofE Primary School has entered a record number of teams – seven groups of pupils, one team of staff and two teams of parents.

The school entered four teams last year and enjoyed it so much they are coming back for more. “We found it so much fun last year that we wanted to swim again and do even better. We’d like to beat our teachers,” one pupil said.

The SwiMarathon is not an endurance event but a fun team swim. Each team has one lane of the pool for one hour to swim as many lengths as they can.

Other schools swimming include Foxton, Brooke House, Ridgeway and Bringhurst. A Women’s Institute team, Foxton Scouts and businesses have also signed up and some Rotarians themselves will be swimming in a team.

Businesses have backed the event through sponsorship

There is still time to enter a team of up to six people.
