Flipping good efforts by both A and B teams

HARBOROUGH A came up trumps by winning the Flipper Memorial Trophy gala held at their local leisure centre.

Leading the way to victory were the team’s younger swimmers.

The boys’ 11/u team saw Jay Newman, Josh Wellicome and Charlie Poole continue their impressive form by winning the individual 50m breaststroke, backstroke and fly respectively. They were joined by A team debutant Joseph Dunn to snatch victories in both the free and medley relays.

Not content with victory in just the 11/u, Poole swam up in the older 13/u age group and again triumphed in the 50m free. Newman and Wellicome also won in the older 13/u medley relay with George Edmunds and Conor Simpson.

In the girls’ 11/u, Emily Kendall stepped up her performance level, winning both the 50m breaststroke and backstroke races. In the same age group, Georgia Weller also won the 50m free.

In the 13/u age group, Lauren Bekavac, Grace Bolton and Crissie Hall combined with first Ellie Johnson to win the medley relay and then Kendall to win the free relay. Bekavac won the 50m backstroke with some aggressive swimming, a performance matched by Bolton, who took the free.

In the older age groups Olivia Weller swam a superb hat-trick of victories in the 15/u 50m fly and 100m breaststroke followed by the open breaststroke. Despite suffering from illness and a nose bleed, Theo Brogan won both the boys open 100m fly and breaststroke races.

Result: 1 Harborough A (235), 2 Coalville (224), 3 Leicester Neptune (212), 4 Harborough B (164), 5 Oadby & Wigston (111).
