Steve sets off at pace – but Nags soon gallop back

DIVISION A of Harborough Men's Summer Darts League saw a fine 160 start, achieved by Steve Adkins of Harborough Conservative B, against Nag's Head A.

The super score came during the first singles but it was not enough to win the set – Adkins was narrowly trumped by the skilful Andy Barker (3 x 100).

Nag’s also won the second set but the third was a success for Harborough’s Andy Shillcock – despite opponent Nick Burton chalking up a 180.

After a see-saw battle, the singles ended with Nag’s enjoying a 4-2 advantage.

Conservative then accelerated, winning the first two pairs and producing a strong effort from Andy Sturgess (139, 2 x 100).

With the scores level at 4-4, the final set was an exciting decider, with Conservative’s Craig Burton and James Moore facing big names John Harris and Richard Gamble.

Both sides scored well and reached a double but Nag’s were triumphant after a double three checkout from the legendary Harris.

Division B saw Andy Harrold hit three 140s for the Shoulder of Mutton.

The big scores were recorded during a match against Royalist, with Shoulder also supplying fine darts through John Burnham (101 away, 122).

Royalist’s star player was Jamie Ritchie (101 away), 2 x 140) while Joe Burgess and John Young also performed well.

The singles ended 3-3 but Royalist then won all three pairs for a 6-3 victory.

The C division’s outstanding match was between Peacock and Bull’s Head, Arthingworth.

Peacock produced a fine debut for Dave Macdougall (125, 100) and a solid effort from Damo Brennan (3 x 100). Bull’s Head replied with top darts by Brian Morgan (102 away, 140) and Jo Favell (140, 121).

After a ding-dong battle, Bull’s Head claimed the final pairs for a narrow 5-4 success.
