Promising start after promotion

MARKET Harborough TC’s women’s first team started their 2012 season on a high note.

Playing in division two this year, the newly-promoted team beat Oakham by 6 sets to 3

Sisters Victoria and Abigail Amos, captain Lesley Paris and Sarah Parr, and Janice Glover and Christine Richardson beat Oakham women’s second and third pairs but all three Harborough representatives lost their sets to the opposition’s number one pair in close matches.

Harborough women’s second team started their season also in a higher division due to promotion last year, with a home match against Hinckley Town.

A very tight match continued throughout the evening, resulting in Harborough losing eventually by 5 sets to 4, 56 games to 57.

Junior pair Abigail Amos, playing a very strong game, and partner Charlotte Clarke, in her first senior contest, won all three of their matches, with established pair Jane Cottrell and Jacky Deans winning two sets, and Wendy Brown and Susan Roberts playing out their last match with the game at 4- all in the final round, which they lost.

Harborough’s match season runs through the whole of the summer period with men’s, women’s, junior, veteran and mixed games being played.

The club would welcome prospective new members interested in joining them. Go along to the club at their headquarters on Great Bowden Recreation Ground.
