THE Sports Awards on Thursday night brought together those at the top of their game in sporting achievements throughout the district.

There to kick start the evening held at The Three Swans Hotel was Team GB hockey player and bronze medal Olympian Nic White, who enthralled the audience with tales of her summer.

The awards had nine categories. Sportswoman of the year was awarded to Karen Brooks, Sportsman of the year went to Harry Waddington, Junior Sportswoman of the year went to Freya Batkin and Junior Sportsman of the year went to Tom Herbert with the Footballer of the year going to Libby Smith.

The Unsung Hero of the year was awarded to Ray Capewell, the Sports Personality of the year went to Sophie Bingham, Junior Team of the year went to Medbourne Under 15 Cricket Team and the Inspire a Generation award went to Phil Jarvis.

The main sponsor of the event was the Market Harborough Building Society and Mark Robinson of the Building Society gave a closing speech in which he praised those who participate in sport.
