HENRY ‘Hen’ Sharpe signalled his arrival on the Porsche racing scene in spectacular fashion by powering to a hat-trick of victories at Donington Park.

The Wilbarston man’s sensational debut in the high-profile BRSCC Porsche Championship was all the more remarkable considering he had not driven his new car before – and was not expecting to do that well.

Sharpe has entered the world of Porsches after a decade of racing his beloved MGs.

The notable technical difference is that he is now driving a rear wheel drive car, as opposed to front wheel drive, but he clearly hasn’t been fazed by the switch – as illustrated by the stunning three-victory haul at Donington in the last round of this year’s Porsche competition.

A delighted Sharpe said: “The weekend was brilliant in every way. It really was was great. To walk away with three wins, two fastest laps and an armful of trophies is magical.

“What a springboard for the full 2013 season – I can’t wait.”

Sharpe added: “I had never driven my Porsche 924 before so I was not expecting to do that well, although qualifying did go well.

“I qualified second on the grid. Race one saw great conditions and as the lights went out I got a brilliant start and managed to get a gap between me and the next car. I added to that and by the end I had a five-second lead over the second-placed driver. I led from lights to flag and got the fastest lap as well.

“Race two’s starting position was determined by the finish in in race one, so I was on pole this time. The start was brilliant and I again got a lead and held on for a second win.

“Race three was a reverse grid, so I was put to the back. I had ten 924s in front of me but I got a blinding start and overtook four on the first corner, then overtook the remaining cars within one-and-a-half laps.

“I was in first place and I couldn’t believe it as I took my third win of the weekend.

The races are scheduled to be shown on Motors TV on November 9 at 5.50pm.
