THE Leicestershire county girls’ season-long Flag 50 and Stableford series reached a climax at Glen Gorse and several members of local clubs were among the prizewinners.
This year a total of six events have been held, including a round at Market Harborough GC.
Flag 50 competitions are for various age groups, with the more experienced young golfers taking part in the Stablefords.
Group one – for girls born 2000 or earlier – was led by Victoria Cooke (Hinckley) with Esme Bliss (The Leicestershire) second, Daniella Fitzpatrick (Glen Gorse) third; group two – for girls born 2001/2 – winner Kirsten Thorpe (Park Hill) with Victoria Mayfield (Kirby Muxloe) second, Olivia Hubbard (Lutterworth) third, and group three – born 2003 or later – winner Abigail Wilkin (Kilworth Springs), second Hannah Garner-Stephens (Charnwood Forest), third Kerry Thorpe (Park Hill).
The Stableford series winner was Grace Smith (Cosby) from Alexandra West (Glen Gorse) and Alice Watkins (Lutterworth).
County girls’ organiser Helen Buckingham said: “We had a really successful 2012 series with 57 girls in total taking part.
“The girls are now being directed to winter coaching organised through the County Golf Partnership Academy or the County Women’s Golf Association.”
BRYN Morris, the Kibworth GC professional, and his son Tom were the overall winners of the county golf Alliance tournament at Willesley Park GC with 43pts.
They were one ahead of runners-up Ross Bradshaw and Andy Calvert.
A tie on 41pts saw Scraptoft’s Mark Quin-Jarvis and Keith Springham third on Alliance rule from Mark Frankham (Lutterworth) and Julian Harris (Glen Gorse).
Ian Lyner (The Leicestershire) shot 2-under-par-68 to win the pro individual award from Bradshaw, 69, with a three-way tie on 71 between Morris, David Mee (Longcliffe) and Craig Shave (Whetstone).
Gary Coysh (Kilworth Springs) and amateur John Poole amassed 41pts to win the pro/am section prize in this event.
MARK Walker (4) notched 40pts to win the Hanks Under-35s Trophy at Kibworth GC.
David Smith (8), with 39pts, took the Veteran’s trophy. County first teamer Martin Anderson was round in 72 to win the scratch award.
Stuart Bulley (8), 42pts, led division one from Geoff Trill (10), 38pts, and Kevin Jarman (9), 37. Gordon Milne (14) scored 38pts to win division two after a tie with Alan McGann (14), who ended second ahead of Gabe Corbett (13), 38.
David Hollingsworth (19) led division three with 39pts from Kelvin Widdowson (17), 38, and David Carter (17), 37, and in division four Robin Hall (20) was first after he had tied on 39pts with Nathan Higgs (24) second and Dean Horton (20), 38, third.
The top junior was Martin Frost (16) with 35pts.
GARY Follen won the Forbes Over 35s Cup at Market Harborough GC with his 80-14-66 return, finishing two shots clear of runner-up Astley Sharples, with David Battle (15), also 68 net, third, resolved on local rule.
The Under 35s Forbes Cup winner was Gareth Weston with his 80-13-67 card from two tied on 72 net – Nick Smith (18), second, and Steven Adams (14), third.
WENDY Williams won Market Harborough GC’s women’s Autumn Rose Bowl when she beat Gill Wooldridge in the final.
Suzanne Wright (83-13-70) won the women’s Twos Final with Cheryl Lock (88-15-73) runner-up, Wendy Williams (87-12-75) third, and Vicky Richardson (93-17-76) fourth.
THREE members of Kibworth GC – Ros Hecks, Yvonne Thompson and Brenda Andrews – together with Adrianne Jones of Lingdale tied third in the county women’s golf association am/am tournament at Lingdale GC. They had a total of 168 and were fourth on countback.
There was also some success for local players when Maggie Parker (The Leicestershire) held her county President’s Day at her home club. Wendy Williams and Shirley Percival from Harborough were third in the net section with their 84 return.
Hazel Bond (Lutterworth) won the silver division nearest the pin prize on the 8th hole.
