Creditable finishes in league gala meetings

THE second round of the autumn leagues saw both Harborough club teams finish a creditable third in their respective galas.

Harborough A were on the road again in the National Arena League at Tamworth where, despite a gallant effort they missed out on second place and a chance of promotion by just a single point.

Candice Hall notched up an impressive trio of victories in the open 200m individual medley, 15/u 100m back and freestyle. The IM was won in a club record 2mins 22mins 05secs.

The 11/u girls medley relay quartet of Ellie Johnson, Georgia Weller, Emily Kendall and Hannah Benson won their race, with Johnson and Weller also recording individual victories in the 50m back and freestyle. Olivia Weller wrapped up the victories for the girls in the 15/u 100m fly and breast-stroke. Charlie Poole made sure the girls didn’t grab all the headlines by winning the 11/u 50m fly.

The team also gained nine personal bests, with two from Lauren Bekavac and one each for Theo Brogan, Candice Hall, Emily Kendall, James Marston, Eleanor Robinson, George Robinson and Georgia Weller.

For Harborough B, home advantage and chief motivator Sam Cheema were instrumental in ensuring it was the boys who claimed the most victories.

The open men’s team of Cheema, Tony Cole, Alastair Gordon and Kev James won both their freestyle and medley relays. Cole then went on to smash his best by three seconds to land the 100m freestyle. James swam away from the field in the 100m fly to also claim a noteworthy victory.

Alex Nicholson continued to improve, winning the 10/u 25m free. Jena Richards made a fine league debut to break her personal best in the 25m backstroke. There were six other bests set, by Thomas Dyson, Ebony Goddard, Alastair Gordon, Rebecca Iliffe, Bethan Lewis and Sarah Williams.
