League’s founder returns to lead its 40th birthday celebrations

MARKET Harborough and District Ladies’ Rounders League celebrated their 40th year with a Seventies theme presentation night.

Trophies were presented by Malcom Eames, the competition’s first chairman and the person responsible for starting the league, and present chairman Jan Lally.

Flowers and wine were presented to the pair as a thank you for the hard work put in by them overs the 
years.

This year’s awards were handed out at the town rugby club as follows:

Division one – winners Husbands Bosworth, runners-up Arthingworth; highest scorer Karen Frape (Bosworth), players’ player Yolanda Hunt (Arthingworth), junior player Leah Davies (Green Arrows), umpire of the year Helen Varnsverry and Chris Gordon (Arthingworth).

Division two – winners La Belles, runners-up Allrounders, highest scorer Jess Bulley (La Belles), players’ player Lisa Stewart (Allrounders), junior player Kira Tooms (Market Harborough), umpire of 
the year Su Plant (Allrounders).

The Chairman’s Shield was awarded to Helen Varnsverry and Chris Gordon (Arthingworth) for their dedication to rounders and for making sure that some games avoided being called off.

4 The league’s annual meeting will be held at the Nelson pub on Wednesday, November 14, at 8pm. All sides must be represented.
