Keeping the Olympic flame alight with cycling initiative
WOULD-be cyclists inspired by Team GB’s success in the Olympic velodrome are invited to join a bike ride event.
The Welland Wonders event on Saturday, September 15, gives riders the choice of three distances of 32, 64 or 100 miles.
All three rides set off from Husbands Bosworth Sports Pavilion, taking in countryside in south Leicestershire, Northants and Rutland.
The annual event is organised by Mike Vybiral of Welland Valley Cycle Club under the auspices of Audax UK, a long-distance cycling club which provides insurance and certification.
Mr Vybiral said the event was a perfect opportunity for anyone who caught the cycling bug during the Olympics. “The rides, on quiet country roads, are intended to be leisurely - certainly not races,” he said. “Most cyclists can manage 32 miles at least – as long as they take it easy and stay well within their personal capability.”
Entry costs £5 plus £2 insurance.
To enter, turn up on the day at 7.30am (100-mile route), 8am (64-mile), or 8.30am (32-mile) or register online.
For more information phone Mr Vybiral on 07787 402306.
