LADIES’ European Tour professional Kym Larratt of Kibworth GC and a group of elite group county girl players gathered at Kilworth Springs GC.
Larratt, who is backed by Kath Cottingham of Mark Group, was there at the invitation of the county girls’ coach Michael Bent, the club’s head professional, for a question and answer session with the girls.
While she was there she and the girls, including Kate Frankham of Lutterworth, were the first golfers to try Bent’s newly-installed revolutionary coaching technology system. They were all highly impressed.
Bent explained that the new ‘K-Vest’ equipment had been described as “the latest advance in sports tuition”.
He said: “It analyses swing techniques by using wireless motion sensors to measure precisely how each of the key areas of a golfer’s body moves.
“it is very exciting and is used on the PGA tour, so now local golfers have an opportunity to have access to this latest equipment close to home.
“Kym and all the girls were delighted to have this opportunity to be the first to try it and I am sure they will all benefit from this highly accurate spotlight on own individual golf swings.
“From my point of view as a coach, I know it will show clearly how each golfer, irrespective of current ability or age, can enhance and develop their learning experience towards achieving their personal potential in the game.
“It will be extremely effective for everyone to have such precise in-depth accurate information available as backup for just visual or video camera assessment.”
Larratt answered many questions from the girls on her latest meeting-up session with them.
At the end of the month she will compete in the Indian Women’s Open in New Delhi, before playing at Emirates GC in the Dubai Ladies’ Masters in early December. These are her final events of the 2012 Ladies’ European Tour.
LUTTERWORTH GC professional Lee Challinor won the individual pro medal award in a fog-delayed county golf Alliance meeting at Hinckley GC.
Challinor hit a 3-under-par 68 and won by three in a strong field. Host club assistant pro Mark Pegg, Craig Shave (Whetstone) and David Mee (Longcliffe) were tied second on 71, with Scraptoft’s Simon Wood (72) fifth.
After a birdie at the par 3 third hole, Challinor turned in 1-under-par and picked up three more birdies in the second half of his round. They came at 10, at 13 and at the 15th holes – all par fours. His only dropped shot came at the par three 12th where, after setting up a birdie chance with another good tee shot, he took three putts.
Overall winners were Wood and Keith Springham with 43pts after an initial tie with Forest Hill pair Bob Watts and John Spatcher.
Watts had a hole-in-one on the short third. Challinor and Lutterworth amateur Alex Scott (42pts) were third.
