SUCCESS was enoyed by Harborough and Lutterworth area youngsters when the Leicestershire county girls’ championship was decided at Beedles Lake GC.

Imogen Huxley claimed the title after her 75-76 rounds for a 151 total, with Beth Varnham-Fisher (81-78-159) a shot back in second. Ellie York became the net champion with her 86-16-70 return, with Grace Smith (107-36-71) runner-up.

There were also age group champions. Beth Johnson took the scratch prize in the under-15s with her 86 round, and Evie Crane (105-24-81) was the net winner. Under-13 champion was Olivia Barrs in the scratch section with 102, while Sophie Jefferson (Glen Gorse), on 126-36-90, was the handicap winner.

Helen Buckingham (Forest Hill), the county junior organiser, arranged the tournament and awards were presented by Maggie Parker (The Leicestershire), the county women’s association president.

KIBWORTH GC members competed in the Jolly Fisherman Stableford tournament.

Graham Spowage (12), with 40pts, was the overall winner when Jon Handyside, with his 1-under-par-70 round, took the scratch prize.

There were also four divisional awards. Rob Austin (5), also with 40pts, topped division one from Sam Woodall (7), 39pts, second, with Mark Henderson (9), 38pts, third.

Martin Austick (12) won division two, also with a 40pts haul, from two tied on 38 – Roderick Montgomerie (14) was second and Dave Anderson (15) third.

COLD Ashby GC head professional Shane Rose had a high leaderboard finish in a PGA Midland pro/am tournament at Copt Heath GC. He shot level par 71 for a share of fourth place with a birdie at the 17th, and only one dropped shot. It was a testing day – only three of the pros beat par.

In a similar regional pro/am at Shirley, Rose led the winning team with their 128 total, 2 clear of the field.

CAPTAIN’S Day has been played at Lutterworth GC where overall winner of the Stableford was Kevin Green (13) with 40pts.
