Kieran kicks brave Borough into cup quarter-finals

BOROUGH Alliance development school battled their way into the quarter-finals of the cup after a thrilling penalty shootout success at Heath Hayes.

In a pulsating tie between two of the top teams in the Midland Junior Premier League, Borough dictated play in the first half and took the lead after 15 minutes with a goal from Kieran Burgess after fine work by Alexis Alcindor.

Lewis Carpenter set up Alcindor for a neatly-taken second Borough goal, but the loss of midfielder Carpenter with a head injury stretched the visitors’ resources and allowed Heath to draw level. It would have got worse but for a brilliant save from keeper Dan Marvell in the closing seconds.

The game went to extra time and Borough held out for the period to send the game into a penalty shoot out. With scores level on 4-4 it was left to Burgess to tuck away the winning penalty to send them into the quarter-finals.
