Debutants make early impact

MARKET Harborough Netball League action returned with the division one and two tournament.

The second division has seen two new clubs join this season, Northants JMs and the University of Leicester.

The young Northants side certainly made an impression, playing some top netball throughout the day and narrowly missing out on the title of winners on their debut. In the event, it was Wheel and Compass who won through to finish as overall winners. They proved a force to be reckoned with, combining fine attacking play with strong defending, particularly from Sue Frisby.

The newly-named Royalists, who have managed to secure sponsorship from the Harborough pub of the same name, were clearly spurred on by their new look as they came close to picking up their divisional title with some impressive play throughout.

Oshas Lot were actually crowned champions, reward for their first-class consistency.

The sShooting from Sam Burton was on fine form and they certainly made it clear they mean business this season.

The league season proper starts this coming Saturday at the Harborough Leisure Centre Dome.
