AMONGST over 400 competitors in the penultimate leg of the 2012 Leicestershire Road Running League in the Hermitage 10K in Whitwick was a small but detemined group from Fleckney & Kibworth Athletics Club.

Jamie Strange led the club home in 18th place in a time of 37:09. Next in was Vet45 Duncan Campbell posting 37:42 and 21st place.

Another recent absentee Richard Johnson made up for lost time with 49th place in 40:25.

Next home from the senior reaches of the club were Mike Turner 89th in 43:22 and Dave Wheeler 117th in 44:47.

With ladies captain Lorna Muskett another absentee it was the ever-consistent Bernadette Owen who finished first lady for the club in 238th place in a time of 49:49.

She received excellent backing from Lisa Stone 267th 51:34, Lucie Butwell 313th 54:01 and the relatively-inexperienced Sarah Pearson whose 352nd place in 57:14 was as commendable given the severity of the course.

The club result was closed out by the irrepressible Andy Bailey who took 412th place in 1:00:44.

This Saturday the club is assisting in the sports day races on behalf of Fleckney Parish Council upon the occasion of the opening of The Queen Elizabeth II Field (formerly Lodge Road Recreation Ground) at 2pm.
