Huncote challenge provides fitting end

The end-of-year extravaganza that is ‘The Huncote Hash’ is well-renowned for its testing combination of cross country setting, and imposed obstacles.

Challenging runners to traverse stiles, sandpits, and woodland terrain, the 10km route usually sees a considerable number of fancy-dress exponents amongst its 300-plus entrants.

For the 2012 edition, a merry band of five Harborough AC members opted to test their post-Christmas resolve.

With underfoot conditions showing substantial wear-and-tear from the recent deluges,
the course proved as tricky as ever.

However, clearly undaunted, Ady King headed the Club’s contingent, taking eleventh spot, in a time of 41:50 – some two and a half minutes quicker than 12 months ago.

Just outside the top-50, neither Mark Cherry (51st, 46:23) nor Hannah Eveleigh (56th – and fifth female, 46:48) showed any ill-effects of the festive period. Graeme Rolfe’s time of 50:30 (for 101st place) was five minutes swifter than last time round, while Jackie King (236th) took more than six minutes off her previous best.

Elsewhere, the Taylor clan were once again out in force on the local Parkrun circuit.

On Christmas Day itself, son Matthew took 13th position (20:08) and mum Marise 74th (26:45) from an entry of over
100.

Just four days later, and the duo were back, this time with daughter Emily also in tow.

Matthew’s eighth-place came courtesy of a 28 second improvement, with Marise shaving 23 seconds off for a four-place upgrade.

Emily, meanwhile, clocked 25:42 for 60th.

Their exploits, however, were better by Matt Driver, who took third overall, in 17:57 amid the 124-strong field.

At the Leamington running of the same Series, siblings Hannah and Adam Stewart took the chance to try a different course to their normal.

Alongside 134 others, Hannah secured a top-100 finish (97th, in 29:20), with Adam’s 35:58 giving him 128th.
