Trophy winner gets to the Hart of the matter

ROGER Hart had the winning 209 aggregate in the seniors' Kirkham Trophy at Market Harborough Golf Club.
In a close contest, Lindsay Holliman was runner-up on 210, with Peter Durham (212) third.

Durham is Champion Senior of the Year with his best five competition scores out of a possible nine counting.

A Seniors Medal was won by George Atkins with
his 69 net return. Neil Halliday (71 net) was second and Tony Lane (75 net) third.

l Two Market Harborough GC women members – Sue Veevers and Janet Thomason – amassed 42 Stableford points in winning the Leicestershire and Rutland Veterans Golf Association four-ball better-ball Stableford tournament played at The Leicestershire GC.

More than 100 women from clubs across the county competed in this event.

Veevers and Thomason were one clear of runners-up Anne Platt and Rhoda Crowfoot (Kirby Muxloe), with Cosby’s Jo Groom and Jo Pepper, 40 points, third.

Jan Brackley and Val Howard (Kibworth) took fourth place with their 38 points total.

l Kilworth Springs GC have held their first two Seniors Open Stablefords of the new winter series. Winner was R Wells (Hinckley), who amassed 43 points.

There was a tie on 42 points between E Green and I Jones both from Purley Chase GC.They ended second and third respectively.

Four competitors tied on 41 points, also resolved on a countback.

Coventry Hearsall members J Settle, T Dixon were fourth and fifth, with M Bruell (Purley Chase) sixth and J Birch (St Andrews) clinching seventh on the tournament leaderboard.

Host club member David Janssens, with 40 points, was runner-up in the second Seniors Open of the winter, when he ended just one behind the winner G Wright (St Andrews GC).

The remaining five spots on the prizewinners list were filled by Purley Chase GC members. K Hutt and R Blake, both with 39 points, were third and fourth respectively.

K King, J Fletcher and M Bewell all had 38 points.

l Tom Duff shot 77 to win the scratch award in Kibworth GC’s three clubs and a putter competition.

There were also divisional awards in the Stableford format. Dave Nimmo (10) scored 40 points to top division one from two on 38 – Tom Hunter (7) was runner-up on local rule from John Holland (10), third.

Mark Holyoak (18), with 41 points, led division two from Kelvin Widdowson (16), 40 points, second, with Martin Austick (16), 38 points, third.

Peter Thornley (28) on 37 points, headed division three from Bob Goodacre (20), 36 points, and Pete Rowland (24), 35 points.

Jamie Watson (23) amassed 33 points to win the juniors prize.

l The first mixed tournament of the new county golf Alliance season was a mixed greensome medal for the Rose Bowls.
