KIBWORTH are through to their second successive group final in the Cockspur Cup after they beat Birmingham League side Walmley by seven wickets at Fleckney Road on Sunday.
The visitors put together a total of 247 for 5 but Kibworth chased it down thanks to skipper Andy Smith’s knock of 64 not out and Simon Renshaw’s unbeaten 60.
On the ground’s other pitch Kibworth fielded a second ‘first team’ in the Challenge Cup
second round and beat Broomleys by 36 runs. Tom Bailey took 3 for 57 as the visitors were dismissed for 202 in their pursuit of a Kibworth total of 238 built on Bob Beever’s 70 and Tom Burton’s 68.
On Saturday, leaders Kibworth 1sts gained another victory in the Everards League premier division as they beat Lutterworth by eight wickets. Nick Ferraby scored 70 not out and Greg Smith 50 in the successful run chase after the home team had mustered 158 for 8 in a game reduced to 40 overs a side by rain. Tim Mason was chief Kibworth wicket-taker with 3 for 32 as Lutterworth subsided from 77 for 1.
The second team had to settle for the winning draw after Narborough held out with nine wickets down. In a game reduced to 32 overs, the hosts made 196 for 9 thanks to Gareth Parkins’ 59. The latter then tore into the Narborough batting to take 5 for 28 including the ninth wicket off the penultimate ball of the game. This gave him one ball at the visitors’ final batsman to claim the win but with all ten men around the bat they managed to survive.
Rain also affected the third and fourth team games in the Northants League. The 3rds had to settle for a losing draw after Weekley and Warkton had run up 198 for 6 in their 32 overs (Jacob Gibson 3 for 38). Brother Greg Gibson then top scored with 30 in the Kibworth reply, which closed on 156 for 8.
The fourths broke their losing streak by beating Weekley and Warkton by six wickets. Rikesh Patel hit 52 as Kibworth chased down a target of 151 with four overs to spare.
