THE weather was the victor on Sunday as Kibworth's national Cockspur Cup group final against Derbyshire side Lullington Park had to be abandoned.
With 217 for 3 on the board in an innings reduced to 39 overs, former cup holders Kibworth had high hopes of progressing, but a teatime downpour means that the teams will have to try again at Fleckney Road this Sunday.

Rain also affected Kibworth
first team’s county league game away to Ashby Hastings on Saturday.

The home side finished on 197 for 8 after rain curtailed their chase of Kibworth's total of 307 for 6. Farcically Ashby gained the draw points because they had a better run rate after 25 overs.

Earlier the visitors had been reduced to 39 for 3 before Greg Smith (78) and Josh Cobb (107 not out) shared a 150-run partnership.

All three other Kibworth sides won, with the third team enjoying the best result as they crushed Yelvertoft, bowling the home side out for 83.

The second team triumphed after chasing down Shepshed Messengers’ score of 158.

Tom Bailey claimed 4 for 30 and Richard Jackson top scored with 62, helping to rescue the innings from 35 for 4 with a 109-run partnership with Tom Driver (50 not out).

The fourths gained a second successive win as they overhauled Kislingbury 2nds’ total of 180 for 1. Rikesh Patel ended up on 91 not out.
