SPORTY volunteers from Harborough and Lutterworth were among those praised at an awards-style event at Leicester City's Walkers Stadium on Monday.
Students from Robert Smyth School and Lutterworth College were invited to City’s Championship game against Cardiff City.

In the Lineker Suite before the match, young people who have spent the last year volunteering in sport as part of the Step Into Sport programme were praised.

Step Into Sport enables young people to begin and sustain an involvement in leadership and volunteering by providing training and support to develop their leadership, communication and social skills.

It was arranged by Leicester-Shire and Rutland County Sports Partnership.

l Sport teams in the Harborough district may soon be able to battle it out in inter-school competitions.

Managers have been appointed by the Leicester-Shire and Rutland Sport body to help raise the quality of school sport contests in the county.

Athletics, badminton, basketball, gymnastics, netball, orienteering, swimming, dance and disability sport all feature in the aims.
