THE PKA Kickboxing Club in Harborough returned home triumphant from the World Kickboxing Association's England trials held in Birmingham.
Two members, Barry Upton and Laura Schofield, both fought so well they have been chosen to fight for England in the European championships. A third member, Ben McClean, narrowly missed out on selection.

Fighting opponents from all over the country and in front of 600 spectators, Upton, fighting in the light continuous kickboxing category, went on to get first place in his category.

Schofield, fighting in the semi-contact category, battled through her opponents to win gold as well. McClean, fighting his first tournament, just missed a bronze medal in the third/fourth place fight-off but put in an excellent effort.

The three fighters were part of a seven-strong team who all returned home with medals, all coached by instructor Danny Ryland.

The fighters are now in serious training for their next tournament and their European debut.

Anyone wishing to offer any small sponsorship or to make a contribution towards the team fighting in Europe can call Danny Ryland on 07956 054201 or see him at Harborough Leisure Centre on Tuesday evenings at 6.30pm.
