Broughton Astley's winless run continued at the hands of a much improved Leava Patidar side at Frolesworth Road.
Being put into bat on Saturday, Broughton amassed 192 for the loss of five wickets in windy conditions.

Marshall Bunting hit a fine 85 not out and was well supported in a fourth wicket stand of 90 with Sam Tingle (33).

In reply, the away side
got off to a flying start. Despite losing a couple of wickets early on the runs were flowing freely as Broughton’s attack struggled to contain the free-hitting batsmen.

The threat of rain briefly gave Broughton hope but further big hitting brought the game to a swift conclusion with nine overs to spare.

Broughton will look to bounce back this week when they visit basement side Sharnford.

Meanwhile, the village club’s 2nd XI continued their recent run of good form with a winning draw at second-placed Westonians.

Broughton set a target of 215 on a good batting track, with David Holiday and Jeff Harris leading the way with 59 not out and 40 respectively.

Their opponents were left some way short in response on 190 for 5, largely thanks to a solid fielding display and some spectacular close fielding from Harris, capping off a memorable performance on his recall to the side.
