Gareth goes for gold north of the border

LUTTERWORTH'S Gareth Keating turned in another championship-winning performance in the Scottish National Open at the weekend.
The teenager, of Greenacres Drive, landed the 1500 metres freestyle gold medal in a time of 15mins 44.03secs.

Keating also won three bronze medals, in the 400m freestyle (4.01.01), 400m individual medley (4.33.36) and the 800m freestyle – in a county record time of 8.13.07.

The meet was being used as a warm-up event for the European junior championships to be held in Belgrade at the end of the month.
