MARKET Harborough felled county league leaders Lutterworth with a comprehensive eight-wicket derby win at Fairfield Road.
Put in to bat, Lutterworth were soon losing wickets steadily to a dazzling spell of bowling from Kimeshin Chetty (6 wickets for 45), who was ably backed up by Chris Griffiths (3 for 51).
Lewis Hill, with a good knock of 51, top scored for Lutterworth before losing out to Mike Haynes-Coote.
Openers Neil Pullen (89) and Rob Taylor (26) put on 59 for the first wicket to give Harborough a good start to their reply, before Kevin Innes (48 not out) joined Pullen to add a further 120 runs for the second and set up the victory on 181 for 2 from 30.3 overs of a rain-reduced game.
Narborough and Littlethorpe were Harborough’s visitors on Sunday in the league cup.
They batted first and reached 234 for 6 in their 40 overs.
Chetty and Rob Taylor each took two wickets for Harborough, with Pullen and Neal Mackey taking one apiece.
Harborough’s openers Rob Taylor (83) and Neal Mackey (10) put on 59 for the first wicket, providing another good start, before a slip to 152 for 6. George Clarke (33 not out) was joined by Pullen (58 not out) to see the home side through to victory with a stand of 85.
Harborough included three under-15s in their line-up and they were a credit to the club. Under-17 George Clarke played a very mature innings to help ensure Harborough’s passage into the next round.
This Saturday Harborough are away to Ashby Hastings in the league – and visit the same team on Sunday in the quarter-finals of the league cup.
Harborough 2nd XI suffered only their second defeat of the season when they, too, took on their Lutterworth counterparts.
On a damp day Harborough were made to bat first on a difficult track but made a good start through openers James Docherty (86) and Jamie Rayner (38).
Once the pair had fallen the run rate slowed and the visitors were restricted to 210 for 6. After some lusty blows from Richard Morris (20) and Alan Bindley (16), both were not out at the end of the 45 overs.
Lutterworth also made a promising start with the bat through their openers and the form continued through the top four of the line-up, enabling the home side to win comfortably inside 41 overs. Alan Bindley was the only bowler to take a wicket during a 12-over spell.
Dunton Bassett are the visitors this week as Harbrough 2nds look to bounce back.
