HARBOROUGH Masters members scooped nine medals when they entered the National Masters Long Course Gala in Manchester.
Newcomer Jo Smith won three bronze medals in her first nationals; Nicola James won two silver and a bronze; and Ruth Cheema collected two golds and a silver. Together with Lorraine Morley, the squad came fourth in the freestyle relay and fifth in the
medley event (160yrs+).
Results: 35-39yrs, Nic James in 200IM 2nd 2.54.15, 400 IM 2nd 6.20.40, 100m back 3rd 1.18.72;
45-49yrs, Ruth Cheema 100m breaststroke 1st 1.24.22, 50m breaststroke 1st 38.39, 200m breaststroke 3rd 3.8.76;
Jo Smith 200m freestyle 3rd 2.47.68, 100m freestyle 3rd 1.15.18, 400m freestyle 3rd 6.1.54.
The Harbrough squad won the Edna May Sprint Trophy in a gala hosted by Knighton Fields at the Aylestone pool.
Dale Murphy broke the 13/14yrs club record for 50m freestyle when he won in a time of 27.19.
In the 11/u section a double was completed by Jonti Brogan in the breaststroke and butterfly, and two relay wins followed when he was joined by Tarun Cheema, George Robinson and Ashley Cole.
Theo Brogan won the 13/u breaststroke and butterfly, the latter in a best time.
In the 15/u age group first place went to Matt Firth on fly, Harry Greaves in the breaststroke and Dale Murphy on freestyle. The three, with the help of Andy Cole, won both relays.
Sophie Gerald won the girls’ 11/u freestyle, and Pippa Ball took the 13/u breaststroke. The latter teamed up with Elly Bott, Anna Meadows and Kirsty Haynes for two more relay victories.
Stephanie Britain grabbed two wins in the 15/u section with two more relay victories when teaming up with Sarah Palmer, Anna Meadows, Pippa Ball, Elly Bott and Kirsty Haynes.
The open girls made it a clean sweep in their events with wins from Anissa Cheema, Ruth Cheema, Rachel Firth and Nic James, plus the relays.
Best times: George Robinson, Theo Brogan, Jonti Brogan, Tony Cole, Andy Cole, Dale Murphy, Robert Edwards, Tarun Cheema, Kirsty Haynes and Elly Bott.
Result: Harborough 148, Coalville 135, Knighton Fields 121, Oadby and Wigston 67.
