AS THE county league season reaches the halfway point, Bitteswell remain at the forefront of the division two promotion race – following a sixth successive victory at Egerton Park.
And they had a dazzling 121 not out from demon Dax Miller to thank for the ease of the victory.
The home side were invited to bat first, after Bitteswell had won the toss, and made a decent start in posting a half-century opening stand.
By the interval, they had moved on to 120 for 1 and looked set for a score well over 200, but a clutch of quick wickets saw them stumble to 134 for 5.
A mini recovery followed to take the innings to a total of 201 for 8. Keith Dand took three wickets and Pete Smith two, along with two self-inflicted run-outs to keep the target within sight.
Bitteswell were soon one wicket down, but Steve Pimm (41) and Miller found the fast scoring conditions to their liking. Miller continues to plague bowlers across the county and Park felt the full force in a match-winning 121 not out featuring 18 fours and two maximums as Bitteswell won by five wickets, with plenty of overs to spare.
The second team were not so fortunate against the same club opposition.
Bitteswell’s total of 201 all out included a half-century from George Fox, Rory Long (44) and a rapid fire 29 not out from Richard Pearson.
However, it proved to be nowhere near enough as Egerton Park won by six wickets in quick time.
This week, Bitteswell first team welcome Lutterworth 2nd XI, while the second team travel to Barwell.
A halt was called to Lutterworth’s home game with Syston Town due to rain – after the hosts had seen the heart ripped out of their innings by Raju Sharma (5 for 15).
Proceedings ended with Lutterworth on 114 for 8 from 32 overs. They were chasing a score of 269 for 9 (John Fish 3 for 58).
Lutterworth 3rds ended the 100 per cent record of Daman at Loughborough. The hosts amassed 248 for 7 off 45 overs (Matt Baxter 3 for 44) but Lutterworth salvaged the draw on 101 for 9.
The club’s under-17s (142 for 4) beat visitors Wigston Town by 31 runs.
In the cup the under-17s reached the county semi-finals and will play the winners of the Hinckley-Newbold Verdon tie for a place in the final.
