ALEX WISE returned from a racing stint in France to take the honours in Welland Valley CC's evening ten-mile time trial with a time of 22mins 07secs.
Wise’s closest rivals were Ian Waterfield on 23:48 and Nik Kershaw, 24.01. Kershaw just edged out Adrian Killworth for third place. Completing the top five was Chris Hyde with 24:18.

The riders faced the same course as in the previous week due to
the continuing roadworks at Naseby and Welford.

Other results: John Taylor 24.42, Graeme Hall 24.42, Richard Mortimer 24.48, Mitch James 25.22, Ian Murdey 25.38, Rob Jacks 26.25, Wayne Henderson 26.32, Chris Parr 26.35, Brad Furniss 26.35, Nick Clarke 26.39, Russ raybould 26.49, Richard Stannard 27.04, Mark Bosence 27.04, Ben Hyde 27.05, Ron Beach 27.16, Matt Clasper 27.2, Ray Taylor 27.22, Nev Brooks 27.31, Paul White 27.34, Jeremy Pole 28.01, Grant Warwick 28.02, Tom Evans 28.1, John Davidson 28.11, Mike Ives 28.19, Kevin Webb 28.3, Richard Cole 28.54, Jeff Green 29.08, Paula Fletcher 29.3, Kev Nicholls 29.53, Chloe Parrington 30.14, Andy Blake 30.33, Andrew Weatherby 30.37, Dean Barnett 30.56.

On Saturday Welland’s Linda Hubbard, Phil Rayner and Matt Plews rode the CDLCA 25-mile TT at Etwall, Derbyshire.

The full line-up included some class riders, with Matt Bottrill the pick of the bunch, having gained a second place in the recent National 50 and fourth in the National 10.

Hubbard reduced her personal best by four minutes to record 1:00:19, with Rayner taking 45 seconds from a 15-year PB, with 52:26 – just short of the club record. And to make it a full house of improvements, Plews took 59 seconds from his previous best with 56:20.

On Saturday, Ian and Claire Waterfield, Grant Warwick and Alex Fry all rode the Hinckley CRC at Wolvey. Ian Waterfield was fastest of the Welland Valley contingent with a time of 23:51, ahead of Fry, 25:14, and Warwick, 27:45.

Claire Waterfield finished second woman rider on the day, with a time of 27:01.

In muggy conditions on Saturday, three Welland Valley members rode the NDCA 22.5-mile trial. Nik Kershaw finished with 56.30, Dave Birch 58.12, earning him second place on ‘veterans standard’ time, and Tony Hutton recorded his best ever time on the course with 1.09.38. The winner was Dominic Sweeney in 50.08.

During the season Gavin Hinxman has been hitting the miles and riding the longer distance time trials in addition to the Old Skool Series. On Saturday Hinxman rode the Corinium and Bristol South CC 50 near Swindon. The weather was hot with little breeze – so hot that he discarded his aero helmet after 15 miles into a hedgerow.

But that didn’t stop him recording a personal best over the 50-mile distance, recording 1:51:34, a new best time by nearly four minutes.

The latest round of the area’s Friday Night Summer Series for mountain bikers, hosted by Welland Valley, was held at Kilworth Springs.

The battle between Jake and Katie Hubbard has been fierce during the season, with Katie edging out Jake in the time trial and Jake gaining revenge off road. However Katie took the honours this time, finishing ahead of Jake.
