PHOTOS: Hundreds come along to remember Cottage Hospital

A little piece of history was made when almost 400 people turned up on a damp Sunday morning to wave '˜goodbye' to Market Harborough's much-loved '˜Cottage Hospital'.

The 400 had one thing in common; all of them had been born in the hospital, on Coventry Road, Market Harborough.

Market Harborough Movie Makers (MHMM) are making a film about the cottage hospital, before it closes - and possibly disappears altogether.

So the call went out in the Mail and elsewhere for local people to throng the car park for a final Cottage Hospital photograph - a landmark picture that is likely to be used for centuries in books and articles about the town.

“We really had no idea how many people would turn up” said organiser Hilary Hearnshaw. “I was hoping for at least 50...”

“I think that the fact we had 400 shows great community spirit, and great affection for both the hospital and the town.”

Top local photographer Andy Carpenter - also the Mail’s photographer - took the picture outside the hospital at 9.30am on Sunday, March 12.
