A STUNT to highlight the importance of having regular checks at the opticians saw the chairman of Harborough District Council walk blinfolded through the town.

The blindfolded walk took place today at 11am when John Everett, chairman of the council walked from The Three Swans Hotel to Sainsbury’s.

On his way Cllr Everett had to navigate two crossings, people passing by, bins, benches and other obstacles.

The event was organised by John Bush and the Market Harborough branch of the Lions Club.

Eye tests can highlight various problems including glaucoma, cataract, diabetic eye disease, dry eye, inflamation of the cornea, raised cholesterol and diabetes among other things.

An information board has been set up by the Lions outside of Sainsbury’s which will be manned by Lions during today.
