Firms are being urged to sign up to a Christmas tree scheme to make the town look its best in the run up to the festive season while giving their business a boost.
Market Harborough Chamber of Trade and Commerce has just launched its Christmas Trees Up Campaign.
President Pete Whelan said: “Whether you are a local business or national retailer, the Christmas trading period is equally important.
“It is with this in mind that I am now looking for businesses to play their part in making the town look festive during the Christmas period.”
Mr Whelan said the response in 2012 was disappointing with several retailers declining to back the scheme.
But he is calling on businesses to support the scheme this year to make the town look as good as possible in a bid to boost Christmas trading. Interest has already been expressed on social media, he added.
The chamber coordinates putting up the trees with the support of Harborough Improvement Team and the St Mary’s Road firm Alden Electrical.
The firm had indicated it would not put up the trees this year due to last year’s poor response but has since agreed to carry on.
Each tree comes with lights and a bracket, which is to be placed above the shop or office.
It costs £55, which includes disposal afterwards.
Mr Whelan said: “Please join the campaign and help make the town a more attractive place to shop.
