The Rev Morley appointed to top Legion post

A CLERGYMAN who is one of the chief organisers behind Armed Forces day in Harborough has been made County Chaplain to the Royal British Legion.
Rev John Morley has been appointed to the role by the Bishop of Leicester, the Right Rev Tim Stevens, in conjunction with the Leicestershire and Rutland County branch of the Royal British Legion.
Mr Morley was ordained in Coventry Cathedral in 1968 and served in Parishes in Rugby, Solihull, Wallingford (Oxon) and Bedfordshire, as well as Dean of St Paul’s Cathedral, Nicosia.
He joined the RAF Chaplains’ Branch in 1977 where he served on postings in the UK and in Germany with detachments to Belize and Ascension Is.
He retired from full-time ministry in November 2008, and currently works as Honorary Priest in charge of the Gaulby group of churches in South East Leicestershire.
Mr Morley is married to Kathie and they have two children.
The new role means that Mr Morley will have responsibility for organising the worship at the annual Festival of Remembrance that is held at De Montfort Hall in Leicester on November 3.
Bishop Stevens said: “I am delighted that John has offered to take on this additional responsibility as County Chaplain to the Royal British Legion.
“This is an important role offering pastoral and liturgical advice, and I know John will bring his many years experience as a parish priest and member of the forces to help develop the relationship between the diocese and RBL.”
