Around 135 people turned out on Sunday at the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile in Broughton Astley.
People of all ages were sponsored to do one, three or six mile routes around Frolesworth Road Recreation Ground and for those taking part in the longer distances, a route around the village.
The day was a massive success, with friends, families and even dogs joining together to go the extra mile for Sport Relief 2014.
Christine Lord, one of the event organisers, said: “It was a fantastic day. Watching the community come together to support such a great cause was brilliant.
“We feel very proud knowing that the money raised here today will help people living unimaginably tough lives right here in Great Britain and across the rest of the UK and in some of the world’s poorest countries.”
The participants at Broughton Astley were warmed up in the sunshine with a warm up routine by Karen Bent, while the events were started by the Thomas Estley Community College sports leaders.
A total of £173.50 was raised from on the day entries, sales of hot drinks by women from Sutton in the Elms Baptist Church as well as from voluntary donations.
