'SHOP LOCALLY THIS XMAS'
MARKET Harborough needs your support.
It is an undeniable pleasure to stroll through Harborough town centre and peruse its enviable mix of independent shops and national stores.
But this ambience has been under threat during the past year due to the recession.
Which is why the Mail is today giving another big push to our Save Our Shops campaign in a bid to keep trade local during the crucial Christmas retail period.
Shoppers are being urged to do all they can to help preserve Harborough's economy – and extra initiatives are being organised this year to give the town a further boost over the coming months.
As ever, there will be the huge Late Night Shopping festival in town on Friday, December 4, which sees thousands throng into the streets to enjoy a raft of entertainment, stalls, attractions and the Christmas lights switch-on ceremony.
It remains one of the most important events in the town's calendar and the Mail is again calling for as many people as possible to support Late Night Shopping.
The Mail can reveal that new attractions are also being organised for the first time this year which will hopefully give shoppers another good reason to keep it local in the run-up to Christmas.
Harborough Improvement Team has been working tirelessly behind-the-scenes to provide two further Friday attractions (see page 2) during December to keep up the momentum generated by Late Night Shopping.
The Chamber of Trade is also urging traders to help the town centre look its best over the festive period by making it sparkle with Christmas trees and lights.
It has been a rollercoaster year for the town: established names have departed such as Woolworths, Marks and Spencer and Whitemores but new names have arrived including New Look, B&M Bargains, Symitry North, Boutique 34 and soon-to-open Monsoon.
With this in mind, the Mail is today urging everyone to redouble their efforts in the run-up to Christmas and back the Save Our Shops campaign.
