THE GARDENING efforts of pupils and staff at a primary school have earned it a place on a national scheme endorsed by celebrity chef Jamie Oliver – just one of ten in the entire country to land a berth.
Lubenham All Saints’ Primary School has earned a spot on the Food Education Box Scheme being run by Jamie’s Kitchen Garden Project and the Jamie Oliver Foundation.
Head teacher Rachelle Heard said: “We are one of just ten schools in the country to be chosen to take part in the Food Education Box Scheme. This means the school is being given a box of fresh produce each month for a whole-class cookery demonstration and tasting.”
And that is not the only star name associated with the school for its gardening exploits. The school has also recently been presented with the Royal Horticultural Society Campaign for School Gardening Level 3 Alan Titchmarsh Award.
The award, backed by the TV gardening guru, recognises the efforts pupils make with gardening and is only one notch away from the top Level 4 accreditation.
Some of the pupils’ recent efforts also managed to scoop a few rosettes at the Lubenham Scarecrow Fesival earlier this month.
